2004 Summer Program in Cell Processes
This year the program will focus on Cell Processes. The program
leader is Professor James Sneyd. After an introductory tutorial
and discussion in the first 2 days, the participants will be divided
into teams of five, with each team being led by an MBI postdoc.
Teams will work on one project for the first 2 1/2 weeks, and there
will be a miniconference in the final 2 days.
During the 3-week period there will also be several general talks
on cell cycle and proliferation by active researchers and visits
to bioscience labs.
The following projects will be assigned:
|
8/19 Thursday 12:30pm - 5:00pm
|
Project 1
Calcium and Heart Failure: Pranay Goel |
Construct a model for a calcium transient in a
normal ventricular myocyte, and in heart failure cells that
explain the differences in the calcium transients. How does
your model cope with calcium overload? |
|
Project 2
Synaptic Plasticity:
Alla Borisyuk
|
Synaptic transmission and synaptic plasticity.
PPT |
Project 3
Cell Cycle and Apoptosis:
Gheorghe Craciun |
Construct a model that couples cell cycle and
apoptosis.
PPT |
|
8/20 Friday 9:00pm - 12:00pm
|
Project 4
Olfaction:
Daniel Dougherty |
Construct a model of a signal transduction and
adaptation in odoreceptors. |
Project 5
Calcium Oscillations: Martin Wechselberger |
Design a realistic experimental protocol that
will determine the role of [IP3] in Ca2+
oscillations in pancreatic acinar cells. |
Introductory material on these projects will be provided to all
participants during the program.
