Signature Center for Mathematical Biosciences in Quantitative Methods in Proteomics and Genomics Research Group
- A postdoctoral position is available at the new IUPUI Signature Center for Mathematical Biosciences in Quantitative Methods in Proteomics and Genomics Research Group. The Center provides a mechanism and an environment that fosters collaborative research activities across the mathematical sciences and the life and health sciences schools at Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) specifically with the IU School of Medicine (IUSOM). The postdoc will join a collaborative effort to develop analytical and computational models of MS based proteomics, and their clinical applications.

- Requirements: (1) PhD in mathematics/statistics, computer sciences, mathematical biology/physics, or related area. Background in statistical/computational methods for proteomics and/or genomics and/or metabolics would be beneficial; (2) Strong quantitative & computational skills; (3) Excellent communication skills.

- The Department invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Mathematical Sciences at the rank of Assistant Professor, starting in Fall 2008. The successful candidate should have a PhD in mathematics or a related field, have an active, independent research program, strong potential to obtain external funding, and a commitment to excellence in teaching.

- Preference will be given to candidates who are able to conduct interdisciplinary research with applications in life sciences, as well as those who are able interact with existing faculty in the department. Current research areas represented in the department include stochastic processes, numerical analysis, differential equations, optimization, mathematical modeling and statistics with applications in biological and environmental sciences and engineering.

- The department faculty has active research and programmatic collaborations with several research centers in the campus including JCET (www.umbc.edu/jcet) CUERE (www.umbc.edu/cuere/), CASPR (www.umbc.edu/caspr/) , and the School of Aging Studies (www.umbc.edu/erickson/). The department has external grants from a number of agencies including NIH, EPA, NSA, and NSF and a consulting center (www.umbc.edu/circ/) which offers services to both on and off campus researchers. The department possess excellent computing facilities including a 32-node distributed-memory cluster with low-latency interconnect, and UMBC is in the process of developing a core facility for high-performance computing.

- The Department of Mathematics and the Department of Evolution, Ecology, and Organismal Biology (EEOB) invite applications for a tenure-track position in Mathematical Biology. The position will be 80% in the Department of Mathematics and 20% in EEOB and will be tenure-eligible in Mathematics. Preference will be given to mathematicians with interest in areas such as ecology, population genetics and evolutionary biology. The appointee will be part of a growing faculty in the area of mathematical biology at OSU, with opportunities to participate in the activities of the Mathematical Biosciences Institute, an NSF-funded National Institute located at The Ohio State University. Through research and teaching, the appointee will contribute to bridging biology and mathematics at OSU.
