MBI Welcomes new Postdoc Kristina Wicke!
The MBI would like to welcome incoming Postdoctoral Researcher Kristina Wicke. Kristina received her PhD in Biomathematics in 2020 from the University of Greifswald, Germany.
Her research focus lies in mathematical phylogenetics, i.e. the mathematical study and theory of the evolutionary history and relationships among groups of species. In particular, she is interested in studying structural and combinatorial properties of phylogenetic trees and networks. One main focus of her work is phylogenetic diversity indices that are used to prioritize species for conservation based on their position in an underlying phylogenetic tree. Her next aim is to analyze the effect of discordance between species and gene trees on phylogenetic diversity indices and its implications for biodiversity conservation.
